Gatte –

  1. Besan – 2 cups
  2. Green chillies – 2 flakes(chopped)
  3. Baking Powder – a pinch
  4. Asafoetida – a pinch
  5. Coriander Seeds – ½ tsp
  6. Red Chilli Powder – ½ tsp
  7. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  8. Salt – according to taste
  9. Water – 4-5 cups (to boil)

Kadhi –

  1. Cumin Seeds – ½ tsp
  2. Ginger Garlic Paste – ½ tsp
  3. Onion -3-4 (medium chopped)
  4. Tomato – 1 cup (puree)
  5. Red Chilli Powder – ½ tsp
  6. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  7. Salt – according to taste
  8. Oil – 2-3 tsp
  9. Coriander – ½ cup (washed and finely chopped)

Method –

Take besan in a bowl and add salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder, baking powder and asafoetida to it. You can use 1 tsp of oil as well in to it to make dough. You can use very small amount of water to make dough as it can make the water very soft.

Now to make gatte out of dough, start taking small-small portions of the dough and roll them in a thin cylindrical shape to it. Continue to do the same process with complete dough.

Heat 3-4 cups of water and bring it to boil. Now, add the  gatte in to it and cook them for 7-8 minutes or until it get cooked. Take the gate out of the water and cut them in to small pieces or in the length you want to keep. You should not throw the water after boiling them as we will use this water as a vegetable stock for the dish.

Now heat some oil in to a pan and add some cumin seeds in to it. Once it start to crackle, add Ginger garlic paste and onions to it and stir continuously until it turn golden brown in colour. Now, add tomato puree, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric and garam masala in to pan and mix it properly (you can use some water in to the spices so that it does not get burn). Once the masala start leaving oil, add gatte in to the pan and stir it well do that it can get mixed well in masala.

After adding gatte, it’s now time to add the vegetable stock which we kept after boiling the gatte. Bring the water to boil on low flame for 4-5 minutes or until the gravy becomes bit thick (you can use the ratio of water according to the gravy you want to keep for the dish). Finally, garnish Gatte Ki Kadhi with coriander and the recipe is ready to serve.

Serving Tip –

Serve Gatte ki Kadhihot with Chapattis.
