Lauki Kofta

For Lauki Kofta

Ingredients –

Kofte –

  1. Bottle Gourd (lauki) – 1 large
  2. Besan – 3-4 tsp
  3. Green Chilli – 1 (chopped)
  4. Garlic – 1 Clove (chopped)
  5. Oil – for frying
  6. Coriander leaves – 2-3 tsp (chopped)
  7. Salt – according to taste

Gravy –

  1. Onion – 1 medium (chopped)
  2. Tomato – 2-3 medium (puree)
  3. Ginger and Garlic paste – ½ tsp
  4. Hing – a pinch
  5. Jeera – ½ tsp
  6. Salt – according to taste
  7. Red chilli powder – ½ tsp
  8. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  9. Gaaram Masala – ½ tsp
  10. Water – according to need
  11. Coriander leaves – ¼ cup (chopped)

Method –

Peel the skin of lauki and grate it using grater. Squeeze the water out of the lauki and add salt, besan, salt, garlic, green chillies, and coriander to it. Mix the ingredients all together to make soft dough and on the other side heat oil in a kadai for frying.

Once oil get heated, start making small balls of the dough and drop them in to the oil too get fried. Cook them until they turn golden brown in colour and drain them out on tissue paper so that it can soak the excess oil out of it. Continue the process for the complete dough and kofte are ready.

For gravy, heat some oil in a kadai and add Jeera, hing and ginger garlic paste to it. After 5-10 seconds of stirring, add chopped onions to it. Once it start getting brown add tomato puree and all spices to it. Add some water to it (almost ½ cup) and cover it with lid for 7-8 minutes on low flame.

Now check if gravy is done, like when tomatoes are cooked properly or when oil separates. You can use the water as much as you need to keep for gravy. Add Koftas to the gravy and garnish it with chopped coriander. Lauki kofta is ready to serve.

Serving Tip –

Serve Lauki Kofta with rice, tandoori naan or chapattis.
