Peas Pulav

Lunch Recipe


  1. Basmati Rice – 1 Cup
  2. Peas – ½ Cup
  3. Cumin Seeds – 1 teaspoon
  4. Cloves – 2-3
  5. Curry Leaves – 10-12 leaves
  6. Salt – as per taste
  7. Garam Masala – 1 teaspoon
  8. Green Chillies – 2 flakes
  9. Ginger and Garlic paste – 1 teaspoon
  10. Refined Oil – 3-4 teaspoons
  11. Water – 2 Cups


Clean, wash and soak rice in 2 Cups of water for 30 minutes (Soaking time could vary according to the brand of rice you use).

Heat the oil in a pressure cooker on low flame. Add Cumin seeds, cloves and curry leaves in to it. Once it start crackle, add green chillies and ginger, garlic paste in to it. Mix and Saute for 30-40 seconds till raw smell of ginger and garlic goes away. Put green peas, rice, salt and garam masala in to it and mix well.

Now add water to the rice mixture and cover the pressure cooker for 2 whistles on high flames. Do not open the cooker until complete steam from cooker is gone. Stir gently, so that rice do not break and your lunch recipe is ready to serve and you can serve this recipe in dinner too. You can serve it now on bowl or plate.

Tip: Always follow the 1:2 ratio of rice and water if you are cooking in a pressure and 1:3 ratio if cooking in a pan.

Serving Tip:

Serve the lunch recipe – peas pulav with Cucumber Raita, Boondi raita, onion tomato raita, mint chutney etc.
